| Wooster Cemetery, named after General Wooster, and a working cemetery since 1850 has many
interesting monuments worth visiting. |
| Danbury’s monument to General Wooster was erected in 1854 near his grave in Wooster Cemetery. This
monument is heavily carved with a variety of military and Masonic symbols as well as classical Greek motifs. It measures
30 feet tall. |
| Also of significant historical importance is the Monument to Soldiers in Unmarked Graves, which was dedicated
May 30, 1894 in Wooster Cemetery overlooking Ellsworth Avenue. It is a tangible symbol of honor and respect paid to Danbury
men and women, who fell in the Civil War and whose burial arrangements are unknown. |
| The monument consists of a figure on a pedestal which is unique in Connecticut because the soldier
holds his rifle muzzle down in the funerary position. |
